Each year, in an effort to promote, encourage and support cave exploration within the Peak District, Hitch n Hike give away a whole load of SRT rope to the cavers and divers who find the most new cave at a single site. This is excellent but we feel that the biggest gaffs, cock ups and faux pas should be acknowledged as well, all in good humour of course. The Peak District Caving web site has commissioned some unique hats to give away as a prize. They're woolly, stylish and warm. Many thanks to Jane Rigby for obtaining them.

Note from the Ed: A few threads have started on a few forums about this prize with some differing views. To clarify, there is no intention to ridicule anyone. The primary intention is light hearted humor, but in some cases to make a valid point that really has to be made for the good of caving. For example, teams attempting the Titan-Peak trough trip without sufficient planning, and in some cases without the necessary skills. Another one or two of these could seriously jeopardise access to the system. We once lost access for four years and we don't want that happening again. I would like to think that anyone involved in a gaff could hold their hands up, say "it was me, I did it", take it on the chin and see the funny side of it as well as the serious. No names will be mentioned unless those involved agree. Lets just have a good natured laugh at this booby prize and not have a sense of humour failure.
