NOTE - AS OF 15/11/2018, GENTLEWOMAN'S ENTRANCE SHAFT NEAR THE MASSON QUARRY IS BLOCKED WITH BOULDERS BY THE NEW LANDOWNER. DCA IS ATTEMPTING TO NEGOTIATE ACCESS. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS ENTRANCE UNTIL THE SITUATION IS RESOLVED.
Original way into Queen Mine workings from Masson Complex is quarried away and the remains are in a collapsed state. No known access restrictions on the 45m shaft entrance into Gentlewoman's Pipe, and the mined continuation downhill and north east, passing through Old Jant Mine to the coffin level of Masson Sough, which eventually joins Ringing Rake Sough (project-named Youds' Level by the original explorers after the person who discovered it). Lidded shaft entrance/exit at the sough tail by the River Derwent at Artist's Corner. Lid can be opened from inside without a key; the key to open from the outside is available from the Mining Museum at Matlock Bath. Deep/Day Shaft is open, and lands near the 'Y' junction two-thirds of the way along the coffin-level - access via Greenhills Farm. Entire system is part of Masson Hill SSSI.
Danger from Weil's Disease from rats associated with sewage seepage in adit entrance.
